View YouTube Comments: Your History and Any Video
Learn how to view YouTube comments in your personal history, browse public video sections, and search loaded threads using simple native and free tools.

Want to see your YouTube comments or dig into feedback on any public video? Here’s a grounded walk-through: how to check your own comment history, inspect conversations under any video, search or export what’s been said, and understand the limits of each method, on desktop, Android, and iPhone.
How to view your own YouTube comment history
Need to revisit an old comment you posted? Your YouTube comment history is tied to your Google account and isn’t public to anyone else. There’s no official sitewide search for another user’s comments, only your own.
Desktop (browser)
- Sign in to YouTube on the web.
- Click the History tab in the left sidebar.
- On the right, look for Manage all history and find Comments.
- Or, open Google My Activity and select YouTube comments.
- You’ll get a list of your comments, each linked to the original video. You can jump back to the moment it was posted or delete it.
Mobile app (Android or iPhone)
- Open the YouTube app, sign in, and tap your profile icon.
- Choose Your data in YouTube or Settings, then find Manage all history.
- Tap Interactions or look for a Comments section.
Note: YouTube’s app menus shift often, if you don’t see a comments section in your app, open Google My Activity in a mobile browser.
Limits: You can only see your own comments here, not the replies others left you. To check those, visit the original video and scroll to your thread.
How to view comments on any public YouTube video
Everybody can read public comments under a video unless the creator turned off commenting or marked the video private. Here’s how:
- Visit the YouTube video on desktop or mobile.
- Scroll below the video and channel info to reach comments.
- Use the Sort by menu (top of the comments tab) to switch between Top comments (most liked, relevant, or pinned) and Newest first (chronological order).
- On mobile, you may need to tap the comments preview bar to fully expand the section.
Limits: On busy videos, YouTube loads comments in chunks, not all at once. Getting to old comments may mean lots of scrolls, and closing the video resets your place.
How do you search or export comments under a video?
Finding a topic in big comment sections is tough without extra help.
- On your own channel: Use YouTube Studio’s Comments tab, filtering and searching as needed, but only for your channel’s videos.
- On others’ videos: Your browser’s Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F) only finds text already loaded on the page.
- With a tool: Use the YouTube Comment Search tool to search the newest 100 top-level comments on any public video. No login needed, just paste the link, type a word or username, and get instant highlights and filters. (How this works)
- To export comments: The YouTube Comment Downloader lets you grab the latest 100 comments as CSV or JSON, tagged by type and keyword to simplify sorting.
Example: Browser search vs. comment search tool (invented for clarity)
Suppose a video has 600 comments. If you use Ctrl+F for "battery life" on the native page, it only checks what’s visible, maybe the first 20 comments. The comment search tool grabs the top 100 in one go, letting you filter for “battery” instantly to see every hit and the usernames behind them.
What can’t you see?
- Comments held for review: Unapproved comments are only visible to the creator in YouTube Studio. Deleted comments are gone for good.
- Other people’s comment history: No tool shows all the comments someone else posted across YouTube.
- Hidden/restricted threads: If comments are disabled or restricted by the uploader, nothing (short of their approval) makes them visible to you.

How to read comments across an entire channel
Sometimes you need more than one video’s worth of feedback, especially for research or audience insights. Manually clicking through countless videos takes forever.
- For a single video, the comment downloader gives a classified comment export.
- For bigger jobs, a Channel X-Ray channel report surveys recent uploads (30 or 90 days), classifies comments into questions, requests and pain points, and pairs them with full transcripts. Useful for vetting collab partners, researching a niche, or crafting replies at scale. Find specific phrases across the whole set with this guide to finding a specific comment.
- To triage and reply to comments, see the reply workflow guide.
Whether you’re looking for your own remarks, searching through someone else’s audience chatter, or analyzing a whole channel’s sentiment, start with YouTube’s built-in views, know what each one lacks, and scale up with a tool only when you hit those walls.
